Silas Willard Students

The annual migration of North America's monarch butterfly is a unique and unforgettable phenomenon. Silas Willard 4th grade students began working on creating remarkable and unique works of art this week in Beth Fuller's art class involving monarch butterflies.

The goal of the project was to create a symmetrical outline of a monarch butterfly. Students did this by folding the paper in half and painting only one side. They then transferred the paint by closing the paper and rubbing, similar to an ink block painting.

Students touched up the transferred side to get their monarch painting ready for the next time they are in art and will add yellows, browns, and oranges to finish their pieces.
